potius sero quam nunquam
I should be in bed. I wish I could search my entries and see how many times I start an entry like this. I've fallen into the deadly nap pattern again. I sleep poorly, so I have a nap, which means I'm not tired enough to sleep at night, which means I sleep poorly, which means I have a nap... The problem is that I don't mind this cycle. I kinda like sleeping only 6 hours each night and having a two hour nap after work. My family doesn't like this cycle - we've had problems with it before. Now that stores are open late or 24-hours, it's not even that inconvenient. However, as long as I live at home, I should try to adhere to normal sleeping standards. In other news, my mother told me today that she's never known anyone to sleep as much as I do. I didn't think I was that sleepful, but I guess trying for 9 hours is not the norm. Why the hell not? If everyone was a little more well-rested, I really think we'd see a decline in all sorts of bad things. (Wow, that was specific...) Think about road rage; if you weren't tired, do you think you'd feel as rushed and harassed and therefore as upset about driving to work. Also, if that jerk who cut you off wasn't tired, do you think he'd remember to signal? The things I think about when I'm up at night! In other news, I seem to have replaced food with shopping as my narcotic of choice. I had a lousy morning, and instead of getting ice cream, I bought a purse. Better for my health, yes. Better for my budget, no. But on the bright side, it's a really nice purse. Since when am I the person who cares about purses? Kris, what have you done to me?! I have five weeks left at work before my contract ends. I don't think I can fit all the curriculum that needs be taught into those weeks. The 'real' teacher will also have five weeks to teach, but the bloody problem with that is that only one or two of those are real teaching time. The rest is fill-in. What the non-teaching public doesn't realize is that report card marks have to be in about four weeks before the report cards go out. This means that dear Mrs. Soandso is showing up for time well wasted! She's going to be around for all the fun and games time when marks and assignments don't really matter because I'll have already finished all the marking for her. No scramble, no fuss. The closer I get to the date when I have to relinquish my class to her, the more problems I have with it. True, I've known since the first day that I'd be leaving on the May long weekend, but that doesn't make it alright! They are my kids, it's my classroom and for all intents and purposes, it'll be my reports that she blissfully signs her name to! In fairness, I know she doesn't want to come back, but she has to under the terms and conditions of her employment and if she doesn't, she could end up royally screwed. She has to come back. I have to leave. To hell with the corporate idiots who didn't foresee problems with this situation!
